LA LA LAND

Put it short, it is a story about a brief interception between two dreamers in LA. Their romance, their dreams, their struggles and their changes along the line. The movie is a mixture of romance, ambition and choices.

Mia dreamed of setting her foot in Hollywood whereas Sebastian wholeheartedly wanted to open up a jazz bar. Two dreamers needed a window of opportunity but instead they found each other.

SPOILER ALERT:
Both of them made it in the end which was good, but unfortunately they did not make it together. It wasn't the typical happy ending that we expected (I know right).

People say the movie is about the tension between love and ambition, but I would say it is more about dreams and purposes. Mia fulfilled her dream of being a shining star whereas Seb achieved his purpose of defending his Jazz music from extinction.

People confused purpose with dream a lot, they sounded the same but the concept is different. Dream is something we are passionate about and always strive to achieve, purpose on the other hand, is the story behind it all, why are we doing what we are doing and even the reason for our existence.

Mia was chasing her dream while Seb was defending his purpose. So when Seb altered his way by adding pop element to his music in order to validate his purpose (which is to make more people to love Jazz), Mia disagreed with him and eventually they went down their own separate ways.

It makes me think about the reason behind everything I am persisting and fighting for. Do I become an investment banker to be rich or I just wanted to become an investment banker for the sake of becoming one? Is becoming somebody my dream or is that my purpose..? *Worth thinking.

There is a scene that I particularly remember, this is roughly how it goes:

Sebs : "Why don't you want to do this anymore?"
Mia: "Maybe I am just not good enough. I have been there for 6 years and I think it hurts a little too much"

I am quite familiar with it because I said it quite a lot HAHA.

To all the dreamers who are wrestling with their dreams out there, we all know that the way forward is never a direct flat highway where we can speed 180 miles per hour straight to our destination. It has always been a zig-zag, where we fell down, got up, lost our way, found it again, failed, be inspired, keep on keeping on. The path is not easy, never was, never will be.

Despite all the days we stared blankly at the sky begging for an answer and the nights where we cried ourselves to sleep, sometimes what we need is just a voice that says "I will be here and you will be alright".

So whenever you feel like you had a little too much and need a pail to pour your thoughts and toxic,  I will be here *terms and conditions apply*. Whatever you are dealing with right now, don't worry, you will be fine. If you happened to be really not fine, just...pretend that you are LOL

6 Oscar Awards, 7 Golden Globes Awards, 8 Oscar nominees and more, you know it is legitimately fabulous when they stampeded over the awards, the leading character Emma Stone especially, brilliantly great.

LAAAAAAA LAAAAAAA LAAAAAAAAAAAAND.
